Our staff is involved with so many exciting things happening in NMSBVI classrooms and in various locations around the state... and they’re thrilled by this opportunity to share their innovations with you! Please stop by either event to visit with our staff and get a glimpse of some of the interesting creations currently under development. We hope to see you there!

Welcome Students and Staff to the 2016-2017 School Year. This first day will be a half-day (9:00 a.m. - 12 p.m.)


Parent Orientation/Coffee Social

Low Vision Clinic

September 21st & 23rd, 2016

The New Mexico School for the Blind and Visually Impaired offers free low vision evaluations to infants, toddlers and students throughout New Mexico through its Access to Learning Low Vision Clinic. The mobile clinic travels throughout the state and offers a special medical examination to determine if a student's visual abilities can be improved. At the Low Vision Clinic, a doctor of optometry who has received specialized training in working with students with low vision will measure how well the student sees and will determine whether any low vision devices might improve visual functioning. "Annual Parents of Blind Children of NM Seminar"

April 8th, 2016 @ 1:30-5:30 p.m. (Public Event)

Parents, mark your calendars for this event. This free seminar will take place on Friday, April 8th, 2016, at the Sheraton Uptown Hotel in Albuquerque. This event will offer hands-on learning for both parents and children to learn how to use braille and non-visual skills to focus on everyday independence and living skills such as: cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, traveling, and other activities. This will also give you the opportunity to meet other parents of blind children and blind adults living in New Mexico. Free childcare is available, as well as dinner, and travel stipends are available for families that live outside of the Albuquerque area. For more information, please click on the links below:
